The study offers such reminders of the fifth president's political career as a Louis XVI desk almost identical to the "Monroe Doctrine Desk" now in the James Monroe Museum in Fredericksburg. A portrait of the Monroes' younger daughter, Maria Hester Monroe Governeur, also hangs in the study. Also in the room are early American furnishings. The floor covering is a modern version of the canvas floor cloth one might have found in Monroe's day. |
